Denver
born, and Dallas-Ft. Worth bred,
Lina
broke into the music industry as a songwriter, penning hits for R&B
artists before getting her own record deal.
Her first release, Stranger On Earth (2001), introduced her
sultry old-school vocal stylings to the public and garnered
comparisons to such past & present greats as, Sarah Vaughan, Billie
Holiday, Erykah Badu, and Macy Gray.
Comparisons may abound, but make no mistake, this songstress
delivers a uniquely memorable sound and audibly savory flavor unlike
any the music world has heard.
Much like her debut, her sophomore album possess a vintage feel,
once again paying homage to swing and ragtime, while adding to, and
perfecting the “jazzy funk blues” & “Nu Soul” sound she seems to
have made her own.
The lead single, "Come to Mama", has a sweet, soulful vibe with
vocals (English & French) seductively verging on a whisper. Her
duet, "Around the World", with gritty soul singer Anthony Hamilton
puts her vocal flexibility on display, as the two playfully match
each other’s soulful banter note-for-note, with euphonious ease.
The Inner Beauty Movement proves Lina is a
“topshelf” talent with the ability to touch her listener while she
explores her own vision and range of love, life, and music (as art).
She not only exhibits the courage to take risks in order to make
great music, she uses her abilities to help define, and cultivate
what great music is. Her projected view of beauty through music
resonates throughout this musical masterpiece.
The inner beauty you can’t see or touch; it can only be heard, then
felt . . .
beautifully through The Inner Beauty Movement. |
